I work with individuals who carry a great deal of responsibility for other people. As of late, they are individuals who run or own mid-size companies.
Typically, I become involved after they realize that life is pulling them into a whole new meaning structure. Something is occurring that disrupts their familiar and “comfortable,” existence to such a degree that they are compelled to seek my assistance. Things have become “critical.” Usually, it is not really about life or death, but it feels that way. I often hear, “I can not go on like this.”
When their natural tendency to “solve” or “avoid” the issues they are facing, no longer serves them, they realize that something more is needed.
If I were to distill the complex process that most of my clients face to one simple statement, it would be; “the hardships and difficulties they are facing have the potential to provide them with a new capacity to transform their lives.”
They could be running a company that is facing a significant expanded market share, or an expansion into the global market place with little or no prior understanding of how to meet these challenges. Or they could be a CEO, who is approaching a point where she can no longer neglect the fact that she personally and professionally is “falling apart.” Or simply, they may be a couple who are running a company and need help mediating out their personal differences so that they can continue to work together productively.
In all cases we work together to generate a dynamic process that:
-Identifies the challenges they are facing.
-Determines the source, significance and value of the challenge.
-Provides strategies for a productive course of action.
-Designs and implements a methodology for managing the challenge.
-Implements new behaviors while managing any resistance to change.
-Integrates the change structurally throughout the individual’s life and organizationally within their business.
-And expands their meaning structure.
